How The Firestone Tire Dynasty
Began
It all started at the turn of
the century with the establishment of The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in August 1900. It was then that a 31-year-old
inventor and entrepreneur named Harvey S. Firestone seized on
a new way of making carriage tires and started production with
12 employees in Akron, Ohio.
Firestone Tire Goes To The
Indy
Firestone tires were put to the ultimate test and publicized their superior performance, in 1911,
when Firestone Tire began what would become a
legend in car racing by entering and winning the first Indy 500.
Cars driven on Firestone would go on to win 50 checkered flags at the fabled Brickyard.
