BMW Snow Tire Considerations

What a BMW Owner Should
Know About Snow Tires
If you own a BMW and drive in the winter,
you might be asking yourself - Why don't they make a BMW
snow tire?" Some models of BMW in particular are not known
for being very good snow performers. But I'd like to go over
some things BMW owners should take into consideration during
winter.
Front Wheel Drive Versus
Rear Wheel Drive
Handling
in the snow can be a major concern for many BMW owners,
especially those who own models like the 325i that are
rear-wheel drive. A lot of rear-wheel drive BMWs don't
handle as well on snow as front-wheel drive models. Many BMW
owners who have front-wheel drive report better handling in
the snow. But regardless of which BMW you own, it is
recommended that a set of four BMW snow tires be purchased.
This is crucial if you want to get the best driving
experience out of your BMW in winter.
Some Recommendations
To Consider
Though I am not endorsing any
particular brand of snow tire, I will give you some
advice on the kind of snow tire you might want to
purchase. This will depend a lot on what kind of driving
condition that you are driving in. If you are driving in
heavy snow and ice, you might want to get four narrow
studded tires. For moderate snow four studded tires are not
necessary, but you may want to at least have your rear tires
studded.
For less severe driving
conditions, you may only need to just get four regular snow
tires, minus any studs. Nowadays, the technology that goes
into making snow tires is so advanced that you may get by
with these snow tires in even heavy snow and ice. For light
snow, you might be able to get by on all-season tires. But I
wouldn't really recommend this, as snow tires give you the
best traction in icy or snowy driving conditions.
These are just a couple of the
concerns faced by BMW owners. But if you are planning to
drive your BMW on the snow or ice this winter, I recommend
that you go out and look for a good set of winter tires.
